Pippa, 4 year old female Chihauhau X Jack Russell Terrier - Gloucester

[1]

Pippa is a 4 year old Chihauhau X Jack Russell Terrier. She is tiny and weighs just 4 kgs.

[2]

She has been diagnosed with Lupus (there are two types dogs can get and Pippa has the milder type) at some point in her life, a condition which flares up under extreme stress and manifests itself in hair loss, scaling or flaking of the skin and skin erosions primarily on the face and ears. She hasn't had a flare up in the 6 months she has been with her rescue. Their vet has said if she does have a flare up the treatment is steroids which will mean that on going costs will be minimal.

[3]

Pippa travels well in the car in a crate. She can be left at home alone for a few hours (upto 3 hours) and is good either in a crate or with the run of the house. She sleeps overnight in a crate in fosterers bedroom and is quiet overnight.

[4]

She only requires short walks, preferably at least two a day but only if the weather is good as she dislikes walking in the wind or rain. Her recall is excellent and she never goes far. She is friendly with dogs she meets outside. She is in foster with other dogs and once she feels safe she is friendly towards them but does like her own space. Its possible she is worried about being bumped and remembers past pain. If she was to live with another dog they would ideally be an older gentle dog and she would need to meet the dog a few times and get to know them. Pippa could also live an an only dog and has also lived with cats and is very cat friendly.
Pippa can be nervous meeting new people and needs to be allowed time to get to know people at her own pace. Once she is comfortable with people she is very friendly and absolutely loves cuddles!

[5]

Ideally her new home will be local to Pippa's fosterer (Gloucester) so she can get to know her new family over a few visits.

Pippa needs to live in a quiet, calm home without children - any visiting children would need to be 10+ and understand the need to be gentle around Pippa. She has been comfortable meeting older children out on walks. She will sometimes cry when picked up and needs to feel safe with someone before she is comfortable being picked up.

Pippa is vaccinated, spayed, micro-chipped, flea and worm treated.

We are helping another rescue to find Pippa her forever home and all enquiries will be passed on. If you are interested in offering Pippa a home for life please email us: starfishdogrescue@hotmail.co.uk [6]
